APUS Launches Four New Degrees in Information Technology
Online University System Developed Programs to Support Industry Need

CHARLES TOWN, W.Va., October 17, 2007 — Answering the demand for more highly trained information technology professionals in the workplace, the American Public University System (APUS) has launched four new degree programs in Information Technology (IT). The new programs were designed to build a stronger platform in IT and complement the university system’s Bachelor of Science degree in Information Technology Management and Associate of Arts degree with a concentration in Computer Applications. The IT programs are available at member institutions American Military University and American Public University.

The new IT degree programs include:

  • The Associate of Science in Database Application Development, which is designed to give students a solid foundation in the principles and practices for designing and deploying relational database systems.

  • The Associate of Science in Web Publishing, which provides students the academic foundation and techniques for effective web site development and design.

  • The Bachelor of Science in Information Systems Security, which is designed for students interested in information systems security or information assurance. Students are prepared for a broad range of IT careers, such as security analyst, security consultant, IT manager, information security officer, and security systems designer. Successful degree candidates will be able to use analytical and critical thinking skills to analyze and develop information systems security solutions, generate risk assessment and risk mitigation methodology, develop effective countermeasures to keep hackers outside the perimeter of a network, and develop network and information security plans and policies.

  • The Bachelor of Science in Information Technology, which focuses on problem-solving skills and techniques needed to provide computer and web-based IT solutions in the global ecommerce based economy. Students are prepared for careers as web developers and web publishers, information systems analysts, systems analysts, database analysts, and IT managers. Successful degree candidates will be able to design and develop effective IT solutions, evaluate the impact of the .NET framework and Visual Basic.NET on IT management and global economies, and appraise the principals for designing relational database systems.

The IT curriculum is based on a modular and layered architecture. All credits from the Associate of Science degrees directly transfer into corresponding Bachelor of Science degree programs. APUS classes start monthly, with many offered in either eight-or 16-week sessions. For more information on IT degrees, call 1-877-777-9081 or go to www.amuonline.com/IT.

“These degree programs were created to meet the demands of the marketplace,” said Dan Benjamin, Chair of the IT department at APUS. “We are using the most up-to-date tools that the industry deems critical for success in public and private sector positions.”

APUS serves 25,000 students worldwide and offers more than 50 undergraduate and graduate degree programs in an affordable and flexible online format.
