West Virginia Library Expands Community Internet With APUS Support

CHARLES TOWN, WV, Jan. 9, 2007 — American Public University System (APUS), a distance learning institution based in West Virginia recently helped the local Charles Town Library update and expand its community Internet station.

“It’s important that our community — like our students — has access to knowledge,” says Wallace E. Boston Jr., president and chief executive officer of APUS. “We’re pleased to support the library, which is a gateway to knowledge for many in the area.”

A dedication ceremony for the Internet station is set for Jan. 10. The new station includes six new computers. The computers will also provide access to the library’s catalog.

“This American Public University System donation helps us fulfill our mission of serving people — and providing better access to a wide range of information,” says Barbara Tinker, library director. “We’ve received very positive feedback from our patrons.”

The Internet station is one of several local university initiatives, including donations toward computers at two local elementary schools. The University System also recently renovated an historic Charles Town building, which now is the Academic Center.
