Police organization recognizes American Public University System for contributions to members, community
CHARLES TOWN, W.Va., Aug. 11, 2005 — American Public University System, a distance learning institution here serving 12,000 students worldwide, has received the 2004 “Mike Mountain” award. The annual service award was given by the Battlefield Lodge No. 43 chapter of the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP), located in Manassas, Va.
“American Public University System’s tremendous support not only benefits our members — but our entire community,” says Randall J. Reau, president of the FOP Battlefield Lodge No. 43.
The University System (www.apus.edu) earned the recognition for its support of the local FOP’s swim program for disabled children, contributions to its foundation’s college scholarship program, financial support for operations and more. The University System has offices in Manassas and is an associate member of the chapter.
“We’re both honored and pleased to serve those who are so vital to the safety and well-being of our communities,” says Pete Gibbons, University System chief operating officer.
American Public University System is comprised of American Public University (APU) and American Military University (AMU). Many students studying with APU are law enforcement officers and others pursuing degrees in criminal justice, homeland security, security management and more. In all, the distance learning institution delivers more than 50 undergraduate and graduate programs, providing relevant and affordable distance learning — taught by professors who are experienced in the real-world subjects they teach. APU and AMU also prepare students for careers in intelligence, emergency management, business, management and more.
