Ms. Jean C. Halle

Jean C. Halle is the President and Chief Executive Officer of Calvert Education Services and serves on the Board of Trustees for Calvert School. Calvert Education Services provides the Calvert School program to 23,000 students internationally in distance, classroom and homeschooling settings. Since her arrival in January 2001, enrollments have doubled in the former Home Instruction Department of Calvert School. She spearheaded a complete updating of the curriculum, redesign of Calvert’s lesson manuals, and the evolution of the program’s technology instruction and delivery tools. Under her leadership, Calvert School has launched an array of new products, including the “Discoveries in…” series, the Calvert Test Series, the State History series and the Calvert Reference Library. In addition, Ms. Halle has become a recognized expert on the business aspects of alternative education, whose ideas and observations have been featured in articles and commentaries appearing in Education Week and other publications, as well as on TV on “CBS Marketwatch Weekend.”
Before joining Calvert, Ms. Halle, a Baltimore native, was the CFO and V.P. of New Business Development for Times Mirror Interactive. Before joining Times Mirror Interactive, she held a number of positions with The Baltimore Sun including, V.P. of New Business Development, CFO and V.P. of Finance, President of Homestead Publishing (a subsidiary of The Baltimore Sun), and Director of Strategic Planning. Prior to joining The Baltimore Sun, she was the CFO and V.P. of Finance for Abell Communications, Assistant Treasurer of the A.S. Abell Company, and a Senior Management Consultant with the international accounting firm of Deloitte, Haskins and Sells. She has been a Certified Public Accountant since 1979, the same year she graduated Magna Cum Laude with a B.A. in Accounting from Loyola College in Baltimore.
In addition, Ms. Halle is the Treasurer and of the Maryland, Delaware, D.C. Press Foundation, an alumni of the Greater Baltimore Leadership program, Founding member of The Empty Stocking Fund, Past President of the Maryland, Delaware, D.C. Press Association, and Past President of the Maryland Newsprint Recycling Board.
