Mr. James H. Herhusky
Executive Vice President, Institutional Advancement
Jim Herhusky helped build American Military University (AMU), and now American Public University System (APUS), in a variety of capacities since 1995. Now, as Executive Vice President for Institutional Advancement, Mr. Herhusky directs all accreditation, strategic planning, and development activities for the University. Before being appointed to his current position, Jim directed Operations, Marketing, and served as Chief Operating Officer.
Mr. Herhusky joined APUS following 25 years' service in the U.S. Army. His final Army assignment was as Inspector General of White Sands Missile Range, New Mexico. He earned his commission through Infantry Officer Candidate School into the Adjutant General's Corps, where his assignments included overseas tours to Turkey and Germany. In Germany he served as Deputy Group Commander and Adjutant General for the 21st Theater Army Area Command. He also served six years in the 10th Mountain Division as Secretary of the General Staff, Deputy Chief of Staff, and Division G-1. Among his military awards is the Legion of Merit.
Mr. Herhusky's academic background includes coaching, faculty, and administrative leadership positions at both the high school and college levels. He served as Professor of Military Science and Army ROTC Department Chair for three years at Fort Hays State University in Kansas. His formal military schooling included the Army Command and General Staff College and the Army War College. He earned a B.A. degree in Physical Education from Concordia College in Minnesota and an M.S. degree in Health, Physical Education and Recreation from Fort Hays State.
