Dear Members of the APUS Family,

The shootings at Virginia Tech have saddened many Americans.  The American Public University System extends its sympathies to the families and friends of the victims as well as to the broader Virginia Tech community of faculty, staff, students, and their families.  Many of our employees and students are residents of Virginia and have friends or family members who have attended Virginia Tech, which makes this loss very personal for many of us.

It is tough to imagine a greater tragedy than when an event like this occurs at a school or college.  Most of us consider our schools and colleges as safe havens for all filled with promise for the future.  Our institution along with many others will reexamine safety policies and procedures learning what we can from this tragedy.

In the weeks and months ahead, the Virginia Tech community will begin its healing process.  Please join me in extending our prayers and support to them.

Wallace E. Boston, Jr.
President
