Data Reports

It is important to share assessment results and provide evidence of student learning to the public.  By providing evidence about the quality of student learning outcomes, students can make informed decisions about institutions they would like to attend.  Although we strive to be as transparent as possible in our sharing of assessment results, we also utilize information for internal use only.  Data reports not listed on this site may be available from the Dean of Assessment, jstephens@apus.edu.

Measure of Academic Proficiency and Progress

The Measure of Academic Proficiency and Progress (MAPP) process is a component of the Learning Outcomes Assessment Program at the American Public University System.  This graduation requirement was established to assess the outcomes of our general education program and to improve on the quality of instruction and learning efforts.  All undergraduate students are required to take the MAPP test, a nationally sponsored test by the Educational Testing Service (ETS).  The focus of the MAPP is on the academic skills developed through general education or core courses, rather than on the knowledge acquired about the subjects taught in the core.  The exam is designed to test college-level reading, college-level writing, critical thinking and mathematics within the context of the humanities, social sciences and natural sciences.  Questions do not ask for recall of specific information but, instead, test a student's ability to read carefully, make judgments about clarity, correctness, organization of material, think critically about issues and arguments, and work effectively with mathematics.
Major Field Test
The Major Field Test testing process is a component of the Learning Outcomes Assessment Program at the American Public University System.  This graduation requirement was established to assess the outcomes of selected degree programs and to improve on the quality of instruction and learning efforts.  The two-hour multiple-choice examinations are designed to assess mastery of concepts and principles as well as knowledge expected of students at the conclusion of a major in specific subject areas. They go beyond measurement of factual knowledge, however, because they also evaluate students' ability to analyze and solve problems, understand relationships, and interpret material. Currently, Major Field Tests are required for undergraduate students in subject-specific areas (Business Administration, Criminal Justice, History, English, Political Science, Psychology, and Sociology).  The test is also a requirement for graduate students in the Business Administration program (MBA).
