SOCNAV Frequently Asked Questions It is the student's responsibility to alert APUS that s/he may fall under a current Agreement by emailing his/her Student ID and the name of the Agreement to SOC@apus.edu. Q. How do I know if I am eligible to participate in the SOCNAV Degree Network System (DNS) with AMU? A. In order to be eligible for participation in this program, students must meet the following criteria:
Q. How do I participate in the SOCNAV DNS with AMU? A. After you have applied for admission to AMU and have chosen one of the five eligible SOCNAV DNS Programs, you should begin the Transfer Credit Evaluation process immediately. During this process, your prior academic, military and exam credits will be reviewed and transferred in toward your new bachelors degree with AMU. Once this is completed, your SOCNAV Student Agreement will be generated and sent to you via e-mail.
While waiting for the results of your Transfer Credit Evaluation to be completed and your Student Agreement to be generated, we encourage you to register for a course unlike any other you have taken in the past. If you need assistance with your first course selection, please contact counseling@apus.edu. Q. I’m already enrolled in one of the eligible programs at AMU; do I qualify for participation in the SOCNAV DNS? A. As with most Articulation Agreements, participation in the SOCNAV DNS is only open to students who are admitted to AMU after our official acceptance into the Degree Network System, which is March 10, 2008. If a student completed their transfer admission application to AMU before AMU's official participation in the SOCNAV DNS, that student was admitted under program, admissions, and transfer credit policies in place at the time, and therefore are not eligible to participate. Q. I am currently enrolled in a different program with AMU; can I change my program to one of the eligible degree plans in order to qualify for participation in SOCNAV? A. Yes! You have the option of changing your program of study in order to participate in the SOCNAV DNS; however, changing your Academic Program can have a significant impact on your degree completion. An Academic Program Change can only be done after seeking the guidance and recommendation of your APUS Student Advisor. For questions about changing your APUS Academic Program contact counseling@apus.edu Q. I do not want to name AMU as my “Home College”, but want to take courses with AMU to transfer toward my degree at the other institution. What do I do? A. Students participating in the SOCNAV system wishing to take courses with AMU to transfer back to their “home college” should first register as an UNDERGRADUATE COURSES FOR TRANSFER student. The student needs to contact the Military Credit Evaluations Department at SOC@apus.edu to be sure that the coursework intended to be taken at AMU is listed on the SOC transferability tables. Only courses approved and appearing on these tables will result in a guarantee of transferability to the students home institution. Q. I am currently pursuing a degree at another institution and have listed them as my “Home College”. I have decided I want to list AMU as my “Home College” instead. What do I do? A. First and foremost, you need to notify your current “Home College” of your intent, and be sure to discuss this with your ESO (Education Service Officer) as well. Failure to notify these parties before beginning coursework at AMU could result in delayed registrations, and Tuition Assistance Funding. For detailed information about SOCNAV Student Responsibilities visit http://www.soc.aascu.org/SOCCOAST/Default.html. Once the proper notifications have been sent, you can begin your studies at AMU by completing the on-line admissions application and selecting one of the five eligible SOCNAV DNS Academic Programs. You should then begin the Transfer Credit Evaluation process immediately. During this process, your prior academic, military and exam credits will be reviewed and transferred in toward your new bachelors degree with AMU. Once this is completed, your SOCNAV Student Agreement will be generated and sent to you via email. Please Note: It is important to note that while AMU makes every effort to identify our eligible SOCNAV students, it is the student's responsibility to alert AMU that s/he may fall under the SOCNAV DNS by emailing his/her Student ID to SOC@apus.edu. For questions about your participation in the SOCNAV DNS, or questions about AMU, please email SOC@apus.edu. |
