UNITAR - Peace Operations Training Institution

It is the student's responsibility to alert APUS that s/he may fall under a current Articulation Agreement by emailing his/her Student ID and the name of the Articulation Agreement to articulations@apus.edu.

Eligibility:

Undergraduate students must be pursuing one of the following programs at the University:

  • Associates of Arts - General Studies
  • Any Bachelor's Degree Program

Guidelines:

  • A student has met the terms of the agreement and is eligible for possible Transfer Credit Evaluation review if they completed the specific courses at UNITAR AFTER January 1, 2007 and they have not yet had an Initial TCE completed.
  • If an initial evaluation has already been prepared and the student completed the specific courses from UNITAR AFTER January 1, 2007, they can send in the updated paperwork.  A TCE Update Request Form must also be submitted to initiate the review process.
  • If a student changes their degree program AFTER January 1, 2007, they are eligible for a review of their UNITAR courses for possible transfer credit as long as the courses were completed at UNITAR AFTER the effective dates listed in the agreement.
  • If a student has already had an Initial TCE completed and their documentation has already been reviewed and no additional paperwork is to be submitted, they are NOT eligible for the agreement terms.

The student must have completed any of these courses listed below and send in a Certificate of Completion with the exact course title match from UNITAR:

  • An Introduction to the UN System
  • Commanding United Nations Peacekeeping Operations
  • Disarmament, Demobilization, and Reintegration (DDR): Principles of Intervention & Management in Peacekeeping Operations
  • The Conduct of Humanitarian Relief Operations
  • Ethics in Peacekeeping
  • Gender Perspectives in United Nations Peacekeeping Operations
  • Global Terrorism
  • History of UN Peacekeeping 1945 - 1987
  • History of UN Peacekeeping 1988 - 1996
  • History of UN Peacekeeping 1997 - 2006
  • International Humanitarian Law and the Law of Armed Conflict
  • Logistical Support to UN Peacekeeping Operations
  • Operational Logistical Support
  • Advanced Topics in United Nations Logistics: The Provision of Troops and Contingent-Owned Equipment (COE) and the Method for Reimbursement
  • Mine Action: Humanitarian Impact, Technical Aspects and Global Initiatives
  • Peacekeeping and International Conflict Resolution
  • Peacekeeping in Yugoslavia: Dayton-Kosovo
  • Principles of Peace Support Operations
  • Security Measures for United Nations Peacekeepers
  • United Nations Civilian Police: Restoring Order Following Hostilities
  • United Nations Military Observers

Please note:

This Agreement allows for a MAXIMUM of 22 semester hours, assuming all course requirements from the institution have been completed AFTER the Effective Dates.   Students are eligible to receive 1 semester hour of transfer credit for completion of each course listed.

For those students who are not pursuing one of these programs or have taken a course outside the dates, we are required to follow the American Council on Education (ACE) recommendations for awarding transfer credit.  Credit must be evaluated by ACE and recommended for Undergraduate level credit in order to possibly apply towards an Undergraduate degree program at APUS.
