U. S. Naval War College

It is the student's responsibility to alert APUS that s/he may fall under a current Internal Recommendation Policy by emailing his/her Student ID and the name of the Articulation Agreement to articulations@apus.edu.

Eligibility:

Graduate students must be pursuing the following program at the University (semester hour maximum):

  • Any Graduate level degree (15 SH)

Students may maximize transfer credit from this internal policy by pursuing one of the following programs (semester hour maximum):

  • Master of Military Studies - Concentration in Joint Warfare or Naval Warfare (15 SH)

Guidelines:

  • A student has met the terms of the agreement and is eligible for possible Transfer Credit Evaluation review if they completed the specific course through the US Naval War College and they have not yet had an Initial TCE completed.
  • If an initial evaluation has already been prepared and the student completed the specific course through the US Naval War College, they can send in the updated paperwork.  A TCE Update Request Form must also be submitted to initiate the review process.
  • If a student changes their degree program, they are eligible for a review of their US Naval War College transcript for possible transfer credit. 
  • If a student has already had an Initial TCE completed and their documentation has already been reviewed and no additional paperwork is to be submitted, they are NOT eligible for the agreement terms.

Students must send in a copy of their OFFICIAL transcript from US Naval War College along with a Transfer Credit Evaluation (TCE) Application.  Transfer credit can be applied towards the following APUS courses depending on graduate degree program requirements only:

U.S. Naval War College

 
*No more than 15 semester hours of total transfer credit.
 
A maximum of 9 semester hours from the following that may be applied towards the CORE/MAJOR requirements:
 
DEFM500 - Military Leadership
MGMT605 - Leadership
MILS521 - Strategy, Tactics & The Operational Art
MILS655 - Naval Power in Joint Warfare
NSEC503 - U.S. National Security
 
 
OM599 - 3 semester hours towards the Major requirements in National Security, Homeland Security, or Military Studies Degrees ONLY.
 
*A maximum of 6 semester hours from the above credit can be applied towards the Elective requirements if applicable.
 

Please Note: 

For those students who are not pursuing one of these programs or have taken a course outside the dates, we are required to follow the American Council on Education (ACE) recommendations for awarding transfer credit.  Credit must be evaluated by ACE and recommended for Graduate level credit in order to possibly apply towards a Graduate degree program at APUS.

This Internal Recommendation Policy is valid for listed programs which will be reviewed each Catalog year and credit recommendations may change if the programs or internal recommendation policies are altered and/or re-evaluated.
