Preliminary Transfer Credit Review

The Transfer Student Liaison Team established the Preliminary Transfer Credit Review as a service for prospective students and applicants to give them the chance to see their education and training toward a degree of interest at American Military University or American Public University. We recognize that education is time, money, and effort, and would like to assist you with our efficient assessment of college level credit for you to continue with your educational decisions and goals.

Who is eligible for a Preliminary Transfer Credit Review?

  • Prospective Students who request a preliminary transfer credit review (one-time service only)
  • Current TCE applicants with potential transfer credit for a course which fulfills a prerequisite requirement at APUS, and if the course is preventing them from registration

What documents will be considered in a Preliminary Transfer Credit Review?

  • Academic Transcripts
  • Military Transcripts
  • Credit By Exam Score Reports

Please note that individual certificates (military or civilian) will NOT be reviewed as part of the Preliminary Transfer Credit Review process.

Steps to request a Preliminary Transfer Credit Review?

  1. Prospective Students must contact their Admissions Representative at info@apus.edu to request a Preliminary Transfer Credit Review
  2. Prospective Students must sign the Preliminary Transfer Credit Review Disclaimer and return to their Admissions Representative BEFORE their transcripts will be reviewed
  3. Prospective Students must provide unofficial copies of academic transcripts, military transcripts, and credit by exam score results via email to their Admissions Representative or fax at 304.724.3787
  4. Prospective Students seeking a review of previous coursework to fulfill a prerequisite requirement must provide the following for review:

    - Course Name and Number
    - Course Description
    - Unit of Measure from sending institution (Semester or Quarter Hours)

Steps to complete a Preliminary Transfer Credit Review?

  1. Once all documents have been received the Admissions Representative will send the Prospect Student’s completed packet to the Transfer Student Liaison team for review
  2. Review of documents takes approximately 2-3 business days from the date received by the Transfer Student Liaison team
  3. Results will be emailed from the Transfer Student Liaison, prelim@apus.edu

Who is NOT eligible for a Preliminary Transfer Credit Review?

  • Active students who have completed the official TCE application (unless seeking transfer credit for a prerequisite to remove a registration block)
  • Students who have had a previous Preliminary review completed that was not used for prerequisite requirements
