Ms. Caroline Simpson

Ms. Caroline Simpson - American Public University System (APUS)

Vice President, Student Services

Ms. Caroline Simpson joined American Public University System in 2005 as an Academic Advisor for graduate and undergraduate students. She played a large role in developing the online advising services offered to both American Military University (AMU) and American Public University (APU) students. As Director, and then as the Associate Vice President of Academic Advising, she led the team through tremendous student growth, defined the advising needs of an adult and military student population and developed online practices and processes that support a partnership at a distance with students. She moved into the role of Associate Vice President of Transfer Credit Evaluations and participated in automating the complex evaluation process, enhancing the quality of the evaluations performed, and reducing the time for students to be given their official transfer credit evaluation results. Currently, Ms. Simpson is the Vice President of the Student Services Department; she oversees Academic Advising, Transfer Credit Evaluations, Student and Alumni Affairs, Career Services, and Student Appeals services for APUS’s 100,000+ online learners.

Ms. Simpson’s career has centered on education and student learning. After earning her B.A. in English with a secondary teaching license from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, she taught in a public secondary environment. Next, in a charter school environment, Ms. Simpson taught elementary-age students. After classroom teaching, she moved into an administrative role at an intergenerational preschool. As the Program Coordinator, she designed learning, development, and engagement opportunities for the students and the retirement community residents.

She earned an M.A. in Management with American Public University in 2010 and is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Business Management and Leadership with Capella University. She knows what it is like to be an adult learner and is passionate about supporting the AMU and APU adult learner community members as they work towards their educational goals.
