Governmental Relations

With the distinction of being a national, on-line institution that enjoys both regional and national accreditation, American Public University System is positioned to serve all Americans, regardless of their place of residence. This opportunity carries with it the responsibility to establish and maintain appropriate relationships with all fifty states and the District of Columbia. In addition, the university’s character and mission mandate that it monitor closely the development of state and federal policies related to higher education, and to engage with those who are responsible for crafting and implementing those policies. It is the responsibility of this office to ensure that state/federal government officials, higher education associations and state regulatory agencies throughout America are aware of APUS, its mission, and its vital role in the higher education community. Our staff also strives to present the university’s case in matters of policy development related to higher education, and to promote targeted opportunities for the university to lend its voice to national discussions of regulatory and political issues of strategic importance to the university.

The Office of Regulatory and Governmental Relations (ORGR)

ORGR is charged with the stewardship of the university’s regulatory and legislative interests. The staff monitors legislation that impacts the university and higher education, and it actively engages in lobbying activities that encompass a variety of activities intended to influence the perspectives of legislators, regulatory officials, and related agencies. The Office also promotes the university and its interests by building and maintaining relationships at the federal, state, and local levels, and by working to provide information and assistance to those entities when appropriate. The ORGR serves as the university’s liaison to members of the West Virginia House of Delegates and Senate, the Office of the Governor, agencies of the federal and state governments, key local officials and major higher education associations.
