Synopsis of Role:
Provides general reference support to University faculty, students, and staff.
Essential Functions:
- Advanced collection and electronic classroom development with an emphasis on Web resources.
- Works collaboratively with department chairs and their faculty in the development of course materials.
- Specialization in one or more of the library’s contracted database, e-book, or student tutorial programs.
Critical Skills and Job Complexity:
- Professional library/archival skills with an emphasis on electronic formats.
- Ability to interact with students and faculty in a professional and timely manner through electronic media.
- Mastery of online searching in keeping with the products licensed by the Online Library.
- Familiarity with current online searching methods in a Web-based environment.
- Working knowledge of educational resources on the Web.
- Proactive, yet diplomatic support of the University’s programs.
Preferred Education and Experience:
- Master's degree in Library and Information Science required and other advanced degrees encouraged.
- Academic or special library experience and background in one or more of the University’s program areas are preferred.
- Experience working in online information services desired.
- Familiarity with office automation packages and knowledge of Web software preferred.
Work Environment and Physical Demands:
- Availability for weekend duty and a flexible time schedule.
- Intended for telecommuting, but desk space is available in the Charles Town, WV facilities.
- Collegial team environment that stresses cooperative endeavors and encourages exploration.
- Requires a working telephone along with access to the Internet, which is sufficient to address the current campus teaching platform and Online Library site.
