2016 Inauguration of Karan Powell, Ph.D., President, American Public University System
The inauguration of American Public University System’s third, and first-ever woman, president, Karan H. Powell, Ph.D., affirms the unbounded spirit of discovery and trailblazing achievement that are at the heart of our institution. Transformative change has been a cornerstone for our university, and in 12 years of service to APUS, and over 30 years in higher education, Dr. Powell has unequivocally demonstrated her commitment to advancing our core educational mission through such change.
An inauguration is a public opportunity to celebrate the university’s honored and storied past while evolving its future. As the university marks its 25th anniversary of educating those who serve, we also honored Dr. Powell and her predecessors as champions for continuing change and innovation in advancing our mission. The activities of Inauguration Week brought together diverse members from our accomplished community to celebrate our rich history and to share their perspectives and new ideas for shaping important future advancements.
Dr. Powell was appointed the third president of APUS by the Board of Trustees on July 1, 2016, succeeding long-time President Dr. Wallace E. Boston.
