Mr. James H. Herhusky

Jim Herhusky joined the board in May 2008 after serving the institution for 13 years in key leadership positions including its Chief Operating Officer and culminating as the Executive Vice President for Institutional Advancement.  Prior to joining the institution in 1995, Jim served in the US Army as a personnel officer, with assignments as the G-1, 10th Mountain Division, and Adjutant General for the 21st Theater Army Area Command in Germany.

Mr. Herhusky is a native of Ivanhoe, Minnesota and earned his baccalaureate degree from Concordia College in Moorhead. Upon graduation, he served for two years as a high school teacher and coach in Eureka, Montana before being drafted into the Army in 1969.  While on active duty, he earned his master's degree with honors at Fort Hays State University in Kansas while serving as Professor of Military Science and head of the Army Senior ROTC program.

In his service with the APUS administration, Jim directed the institution's accreditation efforts with both the NCA's Higher Learning Commission and the Distance Education and Training Council (DETC).  Jim served for several years on DETC's Business Standards Committee and received DETC's 2007 Distinguished Service Award.
