Professional Development Workshops

We are excited to offer a variety of workshops for our faculty members in 2008 to enhance your professional development and teaching effectiveness.  In partnership with the Sloan-C consortium, you can now enroll in workshops from the Sloan-C Online Workshop Series.  These workshops (ranging in duration from one week to three weeks) bring together key researchers and practitioners in the field and utilize asynchronous learning networks and other advanced online education practices to provide an effective online learning environment.  Special topics include best practices in online learning, dynamic discussion board and facilitation practices, workload management strategies, curriculum and course development, assessment, rubrics, adult literacy, and retention in online education.  Your participation in these workshops will provide you the opportunity to network with faculty members, researchers, and practitioners from other institutions.

In addition to the Sloan-C Online Workshop Series, you can also enroll in workshops that have been developed specifically for APUS faculty.  These workshops (ranging in duration from one to two weeks) include special topics on Educator training, the Online Library, traits of successful APUS faculty and students, and the effective use of discussion boards in APUS courses. Your participation in these workshops will provide you the opportunity to network with APUS faculty members from other departments.

Click here  to access a registration page where workshop listings are available to you with the times and dates in which you can enroll.  You may register for the workshops through the options located in the event calendar. Simply select the title of the workshop in which you wish to enroll. At the bottom of the page you may select to register online.  As an APUS full-time faculty member, you are required to enroll in and complete one of these workshops in 2008.  In addition to the required workshop, you may also choose to enroll in more than one to enhance your professional development and teaching effectiveness.  As an APUS adjunct member, you are encouraged to enroll in and complete one of these workshops in 2008.  Please keep in mind that Sloan -C courses will require 5 to 10 hours of work per week.

If you have any questions please email Barbara Manuputy, Faculty Development Coordinator, at bmanuputy@apus.edu. For more information about the Sloan-C offerings, you can also visit the following web address; http://www.sloan-c.org/workshop/index.asp
