American Public University System Recognizes Outstanding Graduates and Faculty at 2008 Awards Ceremony
Dr. Frank McCluskey, Provost at American Public University System (APUS), kicked off graduation ceremonies for the class of 2008 at a prestigious awards ceremony held on May 16, 2008 at the Westfields Marriott in Chantilly, Virginia.
Those in executive staff presenting awards included: Wallace E. Boston, Jr., President; Dr. Frank McCluskey Provost; Dr. Karan Powell, Academic Dean; Dr. Gwen Hall, Dean, School of National Security, Intelligence Studies and International Relations; Mr. Chad Patrizi, Dean, School of Business, Management, and Information Technology; Dr. Linda Moynihan, Dean, School of Arts and Sciences; Dr. Mike Jackson, Dean, School of Public Safety and Homeland Security; and Dr. Cindy Emmans, Dean, School of Education.
The first awards of the evening were presented to faculty members from each the four of our schools, one outstanding new faculty member of the year and the outstanding professor of the year across the University.
Congratulations to the following faculty members:
- Professor Patricia Tymon – 2007 Excellence in Teaching Award for a New Professor
- Thomas Kirkwood, PhD – 2008 Excellence in Teaching and Learning Award for School of National Security, Intelligence Studies and International Relations
- Robin Berenson, PhD – 2008 Excellence in Teaching & Learning Award, School of Business, Management, and Information Technology
- Tiffany Blackmon, PhD – 2008 Excellence in Teaching & Learning Award, School of Arts and Sciences
- Assistant Professor Fowler – 2008 Excellence in Teaching & Learning Award, School of Public Safety
- Chris Reynolds, PhD – 2008 Outstanding Faculty Member Award
Academic Scholar Awards were also presented to outstanding graduates. Honored graduates include:
- Mr. George Mayor – 2008 Academic Scholar Award, School of National Security, Intelligence Studies and International Relations Award
- Master Sergeant Tim L. Curtis – 2008 Academic Scholars Award, School of Business, Management, and Information Technology Award
- Ms. Helenjene Curtis – 2008 Academic Scholars Award, the School of Arts and Sciences Award
- Mr. Kevin Ryan – 2008 Academic Scholars Award, School of Public Safety and Homeland Security Award
- Benjamin Davis, PhD – Distance Education and Training Council (DETC) Graduate of the Year
“Our graduation ceremony is a recognition of the accomplishment of a major milestone for our graduates and their families,” noted Wallace E. Boston, Jr., President of APUS.
Dr. Frank McCluskey summed up the evening, "we're so proud of the outstanding achievements of all the graduates and faculty, but especially those recognized here this evening. As honored members of the APUS family, they represent a true credit to the standards we set within our institution and to those they set for themselves."
