APUS Names Hedi BenAicha Vice President and Dean of Library and Electronic Course Materials
Charles Town, W. Va., March 25, 2014—American Public University System (APUS) today announced the appointment of Hedi BenAicha as Vice President and Dean of the Library and Electronic Course Materials. He previously served as Director of the Library at Rhode Island College (RIC), where he oversaw implementation of a Digital Commons, significant growth of eBook collections, and establishment of a lending library of iPads and Nexus tablets, among many other innovative digital initiatives.
At APUS, BenAicha will lead a team of experienced research librarians and course materials specialists, while working with faculty to deliver a wide range of Web resources for the university’s digital classrooms to students in more than 100 countries. He will also provide strategic direction for the award-winning virtual research library, which received the 2013 Creative Use of Technology award, the Gold Medal at IMS Global 2012 for its online Course Guides Project and was recognized for its Campus Guides as part of the 2012 National University Technology Network Distance Education Innovation Awards.

Prior to joining RIC, BenAicha was Director of the Library at Curry College. He also served as Associate Dean of Libraries at Suffolk County Community College in the SUNY system, where he oversaw three separate campus libraries, served on the President's executive council and was chairman of the Council of Library Directors. BenAicha has held various academic research and library management positions, including five years of service with Princeton University's Firestone Library as Bibliographer and Director of Near East collections.

BenAicha completed doctoral course work in history at SUNY Stony Brook in New York and all undergraduate and graduate studies at the University of Paris in History and an MLS from the University of Maryland, College Park.
