APUS Offers Accelerated Online Certification Program for K-12 Educational Administrators

CHARLES TOWN, W.Va., Aug. 14, 2014—Educators seeking to work in K-12  administration  as a licensed school principal now have the opportunity to complete an accelerated graduate certification program from American Public University System (APUS), a fully-online institution offering respected, innovative, and affordable educational programs to adult learners worldwide through  American Military University and American Public University.

The Professional Administration Post Master’s Certification is a West Virginia Department of Education approved program which may lead to recommendation for an Educational Leadership license with Principal endorsement. Students complete 18 semester hours of coursework presented in eight-week courses, followed by a 16-week internship. The program incorporates the standards defined by the Educational Leadership Constituent Council (ELCC), International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE), and West Virginia Professional Teaching Standards (WVPTS).

“Public and private K-12 schools are constantly changing to meet the growing demands of technology, diverse student learning, curriculum, instruction and school leadership,” said Dr. Jose Rodriguez, program director for the Educational Leadership programs at APUS.  “Our teaching faculty members have diverse classroom and academic teaching experience at multiple levels of school and district administration and are thus able to provide candidates with relevant, real-world instruction.”

The program provides students the opportunity to learn leadership skills in a school setting, strengthen interpersonal communication skills, leverage educational technology, develop effective policies and procedures, manage daily school operations, and use performance-based assessments. APUS principal licensure programs are designed to prepare students for licensure eligibility through the West Virginia Department of Education. Currently, many states recognize West Virginia issued licenses for purposes of reciprocity, but this is subject to change without notice. Students may also be eligible to obtain licensure directly from a state other than West Virginia, but students should check with the state they desire to obtain licensure in to confirm.
