Twelve American Military University Student Veterans Receive Loss Prevention Foundation Scholarships to Support Career Advancement

Matthews, N.C., Aug. 21, 2014The Loss Prevention Foundation (LPF) today awarded 12 American Military University (AMU) students scholarships designed to benefit veterans enrolled in AMU programs related to retail loss prevention and asset protection.

As part of a new program announced earlier this year, LPF awarded the scholarships for certification-review courses that will prepare students to take the LPQualified (LPQ) examination and earn a widely-recognized certification for the loss prevention industry. The recipients are:  David Brown, Holly Ridge, N.C.; Kyle Burcham, Tomah, Wis.; Brian Casey, Anniston, Ala.; Jonathan Dupree, Lincolnton, N.C.; Toni Gilmer, Tooele, Utah; Ryan Hutchinson, Abilene, Texas;  Nickalous Korbut, Springfield, Mass.; Larry Metcalf, Fayetteville, N.C.; Michael Tanner, Memphis, Tenn.; and Antonio Yarbro, Harvey, La. Two additional recipients, Dwayne Green and Rilon Reall, are currently on military deployments in Afghanistan.

“On behalf of The Loss Prevention Foundation's board of directors, our members, and all LP-certified professionals, we congratulate all of the deserving AMU recipients,” said Gene Smith, LPC, president of LPF. “This career-enhancing course will provide each veteran an opportunity to learn how retail loss prevention can be an exciting and rewarding career.”

AMU will cover the costs of the certification exam for LPF scholarship recipients who complete the review course. AMU students must be in good standing, have completed at least 12 academic credits, and be interested in pursuing a career related to retail loss prevention.  

“The LPF Military Transition Committee is excited about being able to partner with AMU in granting these deserving veterans LPQ scholarships,” said John Clark, director of corporate asset protection for Sports Authority and chairman of the selection committee.
