Entrants Now Able to Submit Both Emerging Ideas and More Mature Ventures as Part of 2015 Milken-Penn GSE Education Business Plan Competition

Charles Town, W. Va., January 14, 2015American Public University System (APUS) today announced that submissions are now open for its annual $25,000 APUS Prize for Innovation in Online Education, part of the 2015 Milken-Penn GSE Education Business Plan Competition (EBPC). Applications must be submitted by February 24.

As the first education-focused business plan competition, EBPC features more than $140,000 in prize funding and exposure to top education investors and researchers. It was created to stimulate game-changing innovations in the education market and highlights themes that research and practice show to be critical in the drive to improve education. Now in its sixth year, the 2015 competition features dual tracks to accommodate both ideas and ventures, with prizes to be awarded in both tracks. In addition to online learning, other 2015 themes include: Urban Education; Connecting Research to Practice; Teaching & Learning; K-12 Technology; Special Education & At-Risk Students; Open & Collaborative Solutions; The Education Ecosystem; Global/Borderless Education Solutions; Early Childhood Education; and Workforce Learning.

Last year, the APUS prize went to Philadelphia-based Osmosis, which offers a Web and mobile platform that helps medical students study for exams. APUS is committed to nurturing innovation in online higher education, offering both undergraduate and graduate programs in entrepreneurship. It recently launched a new industry web portal offering a wide variety of supporting resources for current and aspiring entrepreneurs, and also provides ongoing support for the Eastern Panhandle Technology Innovation Center (EPTIC) in Charles Town, W. Va., the area’s first tech incubator.

EBPC Finalists will be notified by April 13 and flown to Philadelphia on May 12-13 to pitch their ventures to investors, researchers, and practitioners. Select competitors will also be invited to join the Education Design Studio, Inc. (EDSi), a hybrid incubator and seed fund built specifically for education ventures.
