Seven American Public University System Graduate Students and Alumni Named Presidential Management Fellows for 2015

CHARLES TOWN, W. Va., May 5, 2015American Public University System (APUS) today announced that seven graduate students and alumni have been named finalists in the Presidential Management Fellowship (PMF) program class of 2015 from among approximately 7,800 applicants nationwide.  More than 30 APUS students have been finalists in the program since 2012.

The 2015 APUS finalists and their degree programs include:

  • Matthew Blaskewicz, Emergency Management, Roselle Park, N.J.
  • Debra Brandon, Public Administration, Enterprise, Ala.
  • Christopher Brown, Homeland Security, Orlando, Fla.
  • Maiwand Nawid, International Relations and Conflict Resolution, Burlington, N.J.
  • Michele O’Neil, National Security Studies, Frederick, Md.
  • William Schuler, Criminal Justice, Sellersburg, Ind.
  • Avery Wood, Management, Jacksonville. Fla.

Many APUS finalists have secured fellowships at government agencies, including the Internal Revenue Service, Department of Housing and Urban Development, Federal Emergency Management Agency, and Department of Homeland Security, according to APUS Executive Vice President and Provost Dr. Karan Powell.

“The PMF program is one of the most prestigious and competitive government opportunities in leadership development. It is a nationally-recognized leadership training platform that helps launch federal careers by developing future leaders,” said Powell.

PMF fellows are offered a two-year leadership development opportunity in the federal government. Established in 1977, the program places fellows in up to 50 agencies across the federal government, providing six-month job rotations, exceptional training opportunities, and access to a cadre of highly-placed government officials. Each APUS candidate is supported by the opportunity for mentoring and coaching through the Department of Career Services.
