For 2013, the AMU and APU chapter of the Student Veterans of America achieved GOLD standing in the university Chapter Standards program. Gold standing is the highest level of chapter involvement and denotes excellence in chapter leadership and member engagement.

Student Veterans of America is a coalition of student veteran groups from college campuses across the United States. Founded in January 2008, Student Veterans of America is a 501(c) (3) tax-exempt organization that works to develop new student groups, coordinate between existing student groups, and advocate on behalf of student veterans at the local, state, and national level.

Student Veterans of America has two major components, the executive staff and student veteran groups. Student veteran groups are a collection of students that have formed on college and university campuses to provide peer-to-peer networks for veterans who are attending those schools. These organizations coordinate campus activities, provide pre-professional networking, and generally provide a touchstone for student veterans in higher education. They are an important part of ensuring that every veteran is successful after their service.

The executive staff facilitates communication between groups, connects them with resources from outside their campuses, and organizes them to advocate at the state and national level for the common needs of student veterans.

The Student Veterans of America‚Äôs three primary missions are to develop student veterans groups on college and university campuses and coordinate by region between existing ones; connect them with resources; and advocate on behalf of student veterans at the state and national level.
