About the Faculty
Many of the Criminal Justice faculty at American Public University are experienced professionals from state, local, and federal law enforcement organizations. They have practical experience and are educated in the discipline they instruct.
Dr. Joseph Molyneux is a political and security risk consultant recently retired as Vice President of Security from Freeport McMoran, Freeport Indonesia and FM Services. While at Freeport McMoran, he managed a global civilian and military security force of over 700 responsible for programs in industrial security, executive protection, aviation security, asset protection, port and maritime security, counter terrorism, counter corporate espionage, and internal security. From 1966-72, Molyneux was a member of the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve in a Force Recon Company. From 1975-80, he served in the U.S. Coast Guard Reserve as a division officer in the Port Security Group of New Orleans. In 1971, Molyneux joined the federal government as a special agent with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) later transferring to the U.S. Customs Service. In 1973, he was transferred by Executive Direction to the new Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) where he served in a variety of positions at the DEA headquarters, in domestic field operations and as an accredited diplomatic (the Assistant Justice Attaché and narcotics advisor to the American Ambassador to Pakistan). He received a doctorate and master degree in political science and International law from the University of New Orleans and an undergraduate degree in political science from the University of South Alabama. Molyneux is an adjunct professor within the Departments of Criminal Justice and Political Science at American Public University where he teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in international crime, contemporary criminal justices issues and comparative government.
