About the Faculty

The APU Management faculty brings both real-world experience and advanced academic knowledge to the APU Management curriculum. Many are executives in government, business and non-profit organizations.

Dr. Shawn Black is the Chief of Tanker Tactics, Policy, and Doctrine at the Air Force’s Air Mobility Command. Shawn earned his Ph.D. in Organization and Management from Capella University and his M.A. in Military Studies from American Public University. In addition, he is a graduate of the Air Command and Staff College, the Air Force’s Mobility Weapons School and the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs. He twice earned Top Instructor honors as a teacher at the highly selective U.S. Air Force KC-135 Weapons Instructor Course. He has been stationed at Altus Air Force Base, Oklahoma, Mountain Home Air Force Base, Idaho, MacDill Air Force Base, Florida, and Fairchild Air Force Base, Washington, while also serving in many operations around the world. He is currently serving on the Air Mobility Command staff at Scott Air Force Base, Illinois and as a full-time professor at APU.
