About the Faculty
Department Chair Roger Melton has over 30 years of experience in security, law enforcement, and training. He serves as the Department Chair of Criminal Justice and Security Management programs at American Public University System. Prior to this, Melton served as the physical security manager for the Panama Canal Commission and as the physical security director for the Federal Protective Service. He also worked for the Department of Justice in the wake of the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing. As physical security director for the Federal Protective Service, he was selected as a member of the Justice Department’s Task Force for development of the DOJ report “Vulnerability Assessment of Federal Facilities” – which provided a benchmark of standards for security improvements at all federal buildings after the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing. Melton holds a master of arts in public administration from the University of Oklahoma, a bachelor of arts in criminology from Florida State University, and is a Ph.D. candidate with North Central University. In addition to his department chair duties, he also teaches a variety of criminal justice and security management courses at American Public University.
