NEWS AND NOTES

April 16, 2012 – New Resource Available to Help Students Understand Their Transfer Credit Evaluation Results

The Transfer Credit Department is pleased to provide students with the Transfer Credit Results Resource, a new self-service tool that can help students further understand the details of their transfer credit evaluation (TCE) results. Created based upon feedback from our students as well as compilations of recurring themes in student inquiries, it is designed to allow students to quickly navigate to their specific area of interest and provide them with immediate answers to questions they may have regarding the outcome of their official TCE. While our representatives remain happy to provide personal assistance as requested, it is our hope that this new tool can eliminate any delay in providing answers to the majority of students' questions regarding their TCE results.

December 2, 2011 – Potential Delay Extended Through December 6, 2011 for the Evaluation of Non-Military Certificates

We are sorry to report that the ACE National Guide web site has posted an update that they are experiencing technical problems and are now expecting their site to be unavailable until Tuesday, December 6, 2011. We previously posted information regarding a potential delay for some students in the completion of their transfer credit evaluation if they had submitted a non-military certificate for our review. Please see the headline directly below for comprehensive details. We will continue to follow the same guidelines as previously indicated. Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience, and our gratitude for your continued understanding as we wait for this site maintenance to conclude.

November 21, 2011 – Potential Delay in Evaluating Non-Military Certificates Through November 30, 2011

APUS uses the ACE National Guide web site to complete the evaluation of non-military certificates submitted by students for possible transfer credit. This web site has posted a notice that it will be unavailable from November 22, 2011 through November 29, 2011, for scheduled maintenance. During that time, we will be unable to evaluate non-military certificates unless they are part of an existing Internal Recommendation policy with the university, as those do not require us to access the ACE National Guide.

We will continue to process our transfer credit evaluation requests for all students during this time. If a student has a non-military certificate as part of their submitted documentation for evaluation, we will still complete the remaining portion of the evaluation and simply flag the certificate(s) for review later. Any impacted student will be notified by e-mail that their evaluation does not include the potential credit from any of these submitted certificates. We will complete the evaluation of all flagged certificates at our earliest opportunity after access to the ACE National Guide is restored, hopefully beginning November 30, 2011. Impacted students will then receive an additional e-mail communication when their certificates have been reviewed and their transfer credit evaluation is complete.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause as we are temporarily delayed by the indicated site maintenance. It is our hope to continue to provide transfer credit results to all students as quickly and accurately as possible during this time. Thank you for your patience and understanding. For more information on our standard certificate review process, please visit our Certificates of Completion page within the TCE Center.

September 23, 2010 – Clarification on Transfer Credit Award for New CLEP Tests

The College Level Examination Program (CLEP) began offering some new exams on July 1, 2010 and students are now given the option to complete 'College Composition', 'College Composition Modular', or 'College Composition Modular, with Essay'.  While APUS will accept passing scores on any of these exams for transfer credit, please note that APUS will not evaluate the essay portion of the 'College Composition Modular, with Essay' exam for possible transfer credit. Students should be aware that the transfer credit award for the 'College Composition' exam will differ from the transfer credit award for either of the 'College Composition Modular' exams.

We encourage students to review our CLEP table prior to scheduling their CLEP exam to see how all the accepted exams may apply toward their APUS degree pursuits.  Please do not hesitate to contact us at creditaward@apus.edu with any additional questions regarding transfer credit applicability.

August 30, 2010 – New Internal Policy Transfer Credit Recommendations

APUS is pleased to announce several new internal policy transfer credit recommendations at both the graduate and undergraduate level.  We invite you to visit the ‘What’s Accepted’ portion of the TCE Center for a complete list of our active internal policies, articulation agreements, MOUs, and other potential sources of transfer credit toward APUS degree programs.

August 20, 2010 – Transfer Student Fee Waiver for Military Applicants

APUS charges a $50 transfer student fee to students who have previous credit which needs to be evaluated for potential transfer credit toward their degree pursuits with our university.  Effective August 20, 2010, APUS has waived this transfer student fee for all US active duty military, guard, and reserve applicants new to the university.  Eligibility for this waiver is automatically determined at the time of student application with APUS, so no waiver request or additional actions are necessary for students who qualify.

July 14, 2010 – New CLEP Tests Added

The College Level Examination Program (CLEP) began offering two new exams on July 1, 2010, ‘College Composition’ and ‘College Composition Modular’.  APUS will accept passing scores on these exams for transfer credit, and we have updated our CLEP table to show how they may apply toward APUS degree pursuits.

July 13, 2010 – E-mail Response Delays – Issue Resolved

The Department of Transfer Credit recently experienced a technical error with our communication management system.  As a result of this error, delivery of e-mail responses to transfer credit related inquiries which were drafted between Tuesday, June 29, 2010 and Tuesday, July 13, 2010 were delayed.  We are pleased to report this issue has been resolved.  If you sent us a transfer credit related inquiry within that time period, you should have received a response by July 14, 2010.  If you have not received a response to your inquiry, please do not hesitate to forward your initial communication to creditaward@apus.edu and we will happily address your needs as priority.

Your questions are important to us, and we sincerely apologize for any inconvenience or frustration this may have caused you.  We look forward to assisting you.
