Weekend Itinerary

We have a lot of events planned for commencement weekend and we hope to see you there!

Friday, May 10, 2019

9:00 a.m. –  6:30 p.m. – Early Graduate Check-In
Graduates must check in with the University to collect their name badge and guest wristband for the welcome reception (if attending), and to receive event information and updates. Graduates must have a photo ID at check-in.

8:30 a.m. – Service Event at Gaylord National Resort - Rise Against Hunger
All students, alumni, staff, and faculty are invited to attend our Class of 2019 Service Event. Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. and the service event will begin at 9:00 a.m. We will package nutritious meals used primarily to support development programs and to save lives in developing countries around the world. Tickets are not required for entry into this event.

2:00 – 4:00 p.m. – Grad Fest
Gather with fellow alumni to learn about what it means to be an AMU and APU alumnus. There will be prizes and giveaways, and you can learn about all the amazing university programs available to alumni. Tickets are not required for entry into this event.

5:00 – 6:30 p.m. – Welcome Reception
We invite you and one adult guest to join fellow graduates, faculty, staff, ambassadors, and alumni for light hors d’oeuvres and cocktails. Wristbands will be required for entry into this event.

Graduate Ceremony Schedule

8:00 – 9:45 a.m. – Graduate Ceremony Check-In
Master’s graduates are required to register their attendance for the 10:00 a.m. Class of 2019 Graduate Ceremony. Graduates must have a photo ID at check-in.

9:00 – 10:00 a.m. – Guest Seating
The Potomac Ballroom will open for guest seating at 9:00 a.m. Tickets are required for all guests and children over the age of two years old. Ballroom doors will close briefly at 10:00 a.m. for the procession of graduates. All guest arriving after this time will be seated after the processional and invocation.

9:00 a.m. – Graduate Ceremony Processional Line-Up
Please arrive at your line up location by 9:30 a.m. to finalize your academic dress, receive a briefing on the ceremony and to line-up.

9:50 a.m. – Graduate Ceremony Processional
The processional will begin at 9:50 a.m.

10:00 a.m. – Graduate Ceremony/Ballroom Doors Close
The Class of 2019 Graduate Ceremony will begin at 10:00 a.m. sharp. All guests should be seated inside the Potomac Ballroom at this time. Doors will be closed for the invocation.

Undergraduate Ceremony Schedule

1:00 – 2:45 p.m. – Undergraduate Ceremony Check-In
Associate and bachelor’s graduates are required to register their attendance for the 3:00 p.m. Class of 2019 Undergraduate Ceremony. Graduates must have a photo ID at check-in.

2:00 – 3:00 p.m. – Guest Seating
The Potomac Ballroom will open for guest seating at 2:00 p.m. Tickets are required for all guests and children over the age of two years old. Ballroom doors will close briefly at 3:00 p.m. for the procession of graduates. All guest arriving after this time will be seated after the processional and invocation.

2:50 p.m. – Undergraduate Ceremony Processional
The processional will begin at 2:50 p.m.

3:00 p.m. – Undergraduate Ceremony/Ballroom Doors Close
The Class of 2019 Undergraduate Ceremony will begin at 3:00 p.m. sharp. All guests should be seated inside the Potomac Ballroom at this time. Doors will be closed for the invocation.

 
Note: All attendees over the age of two must have a ticket to enter the ceremony ballroom on Saturday, May 11.

Getting Around the Gaylord

The Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center is a large complex. This map will help you locate the commencement events. In addition, university staff will be positioned throughout the building to help guide you.

Conference center map
