This course will help you learn how to teach the skills and strategies and techniques and tactics of baseball. You’ll learn about approaches to coaching, including the games approach (an alternative to drills-based coaching), you’ll develop a season plan and a series of practice plans; and you’ll improve your ability to coach during games. This course is suitable for high school coaches and for serious club coaches, and college coaches.

After successfully completing this course, students will fulfill the following Course Objectives:
CO1: Differentiate technical and tactical skills.
CO2: Describe the traditional and games approaches to baseball practice.
CO3: Evaluate fundamental skills in youth league baseball.
CO4: Formulate a plan of action to remedies common issues related to youth league baseball.
CO5: Describe your tactics for developing a cohesive team through practice planning and implementation.
CO6: Examine the Six Steps to Instructional Planning.
CO7: Design a detailed practice plan emphasizing offensive tactical skills in baseball.
CO8: Describe strategies for engaging baseball players during instructional sessions.
CO9: Discuss situational coaching as it relates to playing baseball.
CO10: Create a pre-season presentation for parents of a high school baseball team demonstrating the philosophy of your program.
CO11: Compose a team handbook designed for players, coaches, and parents detailing team philosophy, team rules and policies, team goals, and strategies for coaching the team in all phases of baseball.
