American Public University System Names New History Professor

Charles Town, W.Va., May 12, 2008 – American Public University System (APUS) has named Steve Kreis, PhD, to the faculty of its history department. Kreis will teach numerous subjects including European history, historiography, western civilization, and “strategic cultures in war and peace.” APUS is an online university system that serves more than 30,000 adult students living in all 50 states and more than 130 foreign countries.

The graduate history degree program is the most popular discipline at APUS, and is one of only a few history programs to be offered completely online.

Kreis developed “The History Guide,” an online textbook used worldwide, in 1996. He was responsible for all online content for the 14th, 15th and 16th editions of the “Western Civilizations” textbook and wrote the instructor’s manual for the 15th and 16th editions.

Kreis previously taught history and humanities at Wake Technical Community College in Raleigh, N.C, as well as undergraduate-level courses in western civilization, European intellectual history, modern Europe, modern Russia, modern Eastern Europe, and technology and society.

Kreis holds masters and Ph.D. degrees in history from the University of Missouri-Columbia and holds a dual bachelor’s degree in philosophy and political science from Boston University.
