APUS's Online Library Receives 2013 Association of Continuing Higher Education Award for Creative Use of Technology

Charles Town, W.Va., November 5, 2013American Public University System (APUS) today announced that it has received the 2013 Creative Use of Technology Award from the Association for Continuing Higher Education (ACHE) for its 21st Century New Millennia Textbook Engagement Project.

The project was developed to augment and replace the university’s traditional textbook curriculum model and create a companion online guide for each course. The guides combine the library’s key licensed resources and the best of open source and multimedia content, along with providing significant cost savings, according to Dr. Fred Stielow, vice president and dean of libraries at APUS.

“APUS shares ACHE’s commitment to life-long learning in the Information Age and this recognition of our APUS library further validates that commitment,” said Stielow.. “Our course guides help control textbook price inflation, while leveraging Open Educational Resources to provide American Public University and American Military University students with the highest levels of online content quality and currency.”

The Creative Use of Technology Award recognizes ACHE members for innovative uses of instructional and distance learning technologies in lifelong learning. Both credit and non-credit programs are recognized, as are uses of learning technology for student services, research, marketing, or administrative projects.
