American Public University System Graduates Named Presidential Management Fellowship Finalists for 2016
Charles Town, W. Va., April 28, 2016 — American Public University System (APUS) today announced that graduates of American Military University (AMU) and American Public University (APU) have been named finalists in the Presidential Management Fellowship (PMF) program class of 2016.
The 2016 APUS finalists and their degree programs are: Ms. Patti Bruno from Easton, Penn., homeland security, with a concentration in emergency management and public health; and Ms. Nikki Lee from Tucson, Ariz., business administration. Bruno currently works as a lead patient access representative in the emergency department for St. Luke's University Health Network Level 1 Trauma Center and interns for U.S. Congressman Matt Cartwright. She has two prospective fellowship opportunities within the Department of Homeland Security as well as the Food and Drug Administration. Lee is a product and project manager at Agren Inc, and also volunteers as a project manager at Hermosa Montessori school.
Nearly 8,000 applicants apply annually to the PMF program, and more than 30 APUS students have been finalists in the program since 2012. Past APUS PMF finalists have subsequently secured fellowships at major government agencies, including the Internal Revenue Service, Department of Housing and Urban Development, Federal Emergency Management Agency, and Department of Homeland Security.
“We are truly proud to have additional graduates provided the opportunity to advance their leadership development skills via the prestigious PMF program,” said APUS Executive Vice President and Provost Dr. Karan Powell. “It has provided a strong catalyst for helping launch federal careers by developing future leaders.”
PMF fellows are offered a two-year leadership development opportunity in the federal government. Established in 1977, the program places fellows in up to 50 agencies across the federal government, providing six-month job rotations, exceptional training opportunities, and access to a cadre of highly-placed government officials. Each APUS candidate receives mentoring and coaching support through the university’s Career Services Department.
