How to Register for Terms

The Doctoral Admissions Coach responds to all inquiries from prospective doctoral students and assists interested prospects with the application and enrollment processes, providing referrals where necessary. The Admissions Coach also provides initial evaluation of academic records to ensure that all applicants in APUS doctoral programs have the minimum qualifications to enroll, monitors completion of application packages, submits completed packages to the Doctoral Admissions Committee for review, notifies applicants of their admissions status, and maintains complete cohort rosters and waitlists.

Once you have been admitted into the program and have committed to attending, you will be automatically enrolled for the first term of courses.

Continuous Registration Requirement

Doctoral students are required to maintain continuous registration by completing coursework with their cohort, based on the doctoral program of study, and registering each term during the dissertation phase until graduation.  You may not withdraw from courses without requesting a Program Hiatus. If you are unable to maintain continuous registration, you must complete the Program Hiatus Request Form and receive approval in advance from the Director of Doctoral Programs.

A Program Hiatus may be for no greater than an approved two-year period and can only be approved such that you complete the program within the approved timeframe (7 years) for completion of a doctoral degree according to APUS policy. You may have no more than one Program Hiatus per year and may take no more than two total Program Hiatuses. While you are on a Program Hiatus you will be removed from your cohort; upon your return, you may enter a new cohort by completing the Doctoral Program Hiatus Return Request Form.
