APUS Launches Bachelor’s Degree Program in Sports Management Focused on the Business of Athletics
CHARLES TOWN, WV, June 3, 2013 — American Public University System (APUS) today introduced a Bachelor of Science in sports management program for American Military University (AMU) and American Public University (APU) students seeking careers in the management of sports teams and in sports-related businesses.
The new program further enhances APUS’s existing sports management offerings, which include a master’s and a graduate certificate in sports management. While the master’s program targets those looking to advance their career in the field, the new bachelor’s program more directly caters to individuals pursuing careers in such fields as sports business management, public relations, marketing, ticketing, operations, facility management, or community and youth recreation programs.
“This program provides and recognizes a strong business foundation as a key element to any sports-related management role,” said APUS Program Director Brian Freeland. “Our scholar-practitioners bring strong field experience and knowledge to their classroom instruction, particularly in regard to the economics of starting your own business in sports management.”
The program encompasses a variety of management, leadership, administration, and business competencies, skill sets, and knowledge. Required courses include sports marketing, sports finance, athletic program administration, sports communication, sports event management and planning, and sports governance, plus a culminating senior seminar.
“We believe that this new program will benefit anyone interested in sports management and related fields. Our fully-online classes and flexible format are designed to help meet the diverse scheduling needs of our students while providing them with a quality, affordable, career-relevant learning experience,” added Constance St. Germain, Esq., APUS vice president and dean of the School of Public Service and Health.
