Charles Town, WV—October 13, 2020 – As part of the 11th annual Milken-Penn GSE Education Business Plan Competition (EBPC), American Public University System (APUS) has presented CloudLabs with the $25,000 American Public University System Prize. APUS has been a co-sponsor for the event for the last nine years.

CloudLabs, a cost-effective, scalable, and engaging STEM education application, stood out by creating a virtual platform that allows teachers to run lab simulations with concepts including math, agriculture, physics, and chemistry. The company was one of three winners picked from eight finalists who pitched their ventures to a virtual judges’ panel and audience of investors, researchers, and practitioners.

“APUS is pleased to collaborate on such a meaningful program with the University of Pennsylvania Milken-Penn Graduate School,” said APUS Chief Marketing Officer Beth LaGuardia Cooper, who presented the award at an Oct. 6 virtual event. “CloudLabs has the potential to make tremendous impact toward solving some of the most prominent 21st century education challenges. Their product and delivery mindset aligns with customers’ needs and their operational maturity speaks to the ability to realize their vision.”

The competition has awarded over $1.5 million in cash and prizes and has earned a name for itself by attracting innovative ideas from around the world and spotting winning education innovations early. Past winners have gone on to secure over $140 million in funding for their ventures.

“This year’s dramatic disruptions including the global pandemic, social justice movement, and political battles have created an urgent need to reimagine the field of education to serve all students, especially the most marginalized and at risk,” said Michael Golden, Executive Director at Penn Catalyst, an innovation center in Penn GSE for global education that connects people and ideas to develop new ways to advance education. “The 2020 EBPC Finalists – including winners Third Room, CloudLabs, and FulPhil – have risen to the challenge to advance STEM education, social emotional learning, and much more.”
