These Recruiting Policies (these “Policies”) disclose our method of approving recruiters for and set forth our policies and guidelines for recruiters that access the system. These Policies have been developed with consideration of the Principles for Ethical Professional Practice from the National Association of Colleges and Employers (“NACE”). All recruiters who participate in APUS recruiting programs will be expected to adhere to these Policies. A recruiter’s use of APUS recruiting programs and services constitutes the recruiter’s acknowledgment of, and consent to abide by and adhere to, the provisions of these Policies.

The Department of Career Services reserves the right, to be exercised in its sole discretion and at any time, to: (i) authorize or decline the posting of any postings or opportunities; and (ii) deny or revoke use of and other recruiting resources by any person, entity, or organization. The criteria described in this document are applied on a case-by-case basis.

APUS is committed to maintaining the privacy of personal information of our student and alumni users.

The policies set forth in the following Policies for All Recruiters section apply both to all employers who are recruiting for positions directly with the employer and to all third-party recruiters who are recruiting for positions with others. In addition to such policies, the policies set forth in the Additional Policies for Third-Party Recruiters section below also apply to all third-party recruiters. To the extent of any inconsistency in those two sections as applied to third-party recruiters, the provisions of the Additional Policies for Third-Party Recruiters section shall be controlling.

Policies for All Recruiters

The Department of Career Services is committed to providing high-quality services to our students, alumni, and recruiters. We are dedicated to protecting student and alumni information. To meet these objectives, we exercise sole discretion of who is allowed in the system. The Department of Career Services will verify registration information submitted before access to the system is granted. All reasonable means available will be used to verify submitted information.

The following items are required for every registration by all recruiters (i.e., both employers and third-party recruiters):

  • The recruiter’s business name, type of business entity (e.g., corporation, LLC, partnership, sole proprietorship), and jurisdiction of organization, if applicable;
  • Full name of the recruiter’s contact person;
  • Contact person’s email address, the e-mail domain of which must be clearly associated with a functioning domain owned and utilized by the recruiter;
  • The address of the recruiter’s functioning website, which must have a visible link to information about career opportunities; and
  • The address of the recruiter and the phone numbers of both the recruiter and its contact person, all of which must be verifiable.

Signature of the employer policy constitutes a recruiter’s grant to APUS of a royalty-free, nonexclusive, non-transferable revocable license to use the recruiter’s trademarks, name, logos, and other identifying symbols (collectively, the “Marks”), during each period that the recruiter is engaged in recruiting activities, for the limited purpose of communicating to students, alumni, and the general public the recruiter’s participation in recruiting events, the positions which are, or have been, made available to APUS’s student and alumni body, and the recruiter’s working relationship with the Department of Career Services. Such use of the employer’s name and logo may be on social media, in printed publications, on APUS’s or its affiliates’ websites, or by other means reasonable for the intended purpose. The recruiter will retain all goodwill in its respective Marks and all other rights thereto. Such use of a recruiter’s Marks is not intended to imply the recruiter’s endorsement of APUS, and APUS shall strive to disclaim any express or implied endorsement.

The Department of Career Services follows NACE’s Principles for Ethical Professional Practice, applicable guidance and regulations of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, and APUS’s Non-Discrimination Policy and expects recruiters to adhere to the same.

Recruiters who utilize APUS recruiting programs and services must comply with these Policies:

  • Comply with all applicable federal, state, and local laws, including, without limitation, the Fair Labor Standards Act and laws and regulations concerning and affirmative action;
  • Comply with applicable Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) regulations, standards, and guidelines, including but not limited to the following:
    • Considering students for employment, in the case of an employer, and referring qualified students to employers, in the case of a third-party recruiter, without regard to the student's race, color, national origin, religion, age, sex, or disability;
    • Reviewing selection criteria for adverse impact and screening students based upon job-related criteria only, and not based upon the student's race, color, national origin, religion, age, sex, or disability;
    • Refusing, in the case of a third-party recruiter that is a resume referral service, to permit employers to screen and select resumes based upon the student's race, color, national origin, religion, age, sex, or disability;
    • Avoiding use of inquiries during the recruiting process that are considered unacceptable by EEO standards and guidelines; and
    • Investigating complaints forwarded by the Department of Career Services or a third-party recruiter’s employer client regarding EEO noncompliance and seeking resolution of such complaints.

Recruiters who utilize APUS recruiting programs and services are encouraged to adhere to NACE's Principles for Ethical Professional Practice.

Professional Opportunities

Eligible job postings are those which result in jobs performing professional duties that are remunerated with salaries or hourly wages.

Ineligible job postings include:

  • Full commission-based positions;
  • Opportunities that require candidates to make an initial financial investment, even for training; and
  • Jobs that require students to promote the sale of products and/or services to other students.

Internships

Acceptable internships provide students with structured learning experiences, regular supervision, and exposure to professional aspects of chosen fields. Internships must be paid internship opportunities unless a student is receiving academic credit. If a student is receiving academic credit, the opportunity can be unpaid.

Recruiting Events

Participation at Career Fairs (Virtual or In-Person) is determined on a first-come, first-served basis and is limited based on the specific event’s targeted audience, needs, and space availability.

Requests to participate in an event may be declined by the Department of Career Services if:

  • The available opportunities at a company don’t align with APUS’s degree programs or the event; or
  • An employer was a no-show for two events in a 12-month period.

Resume Database

To support our policy of maintaining the privacy of our students and alumni, we reserve the right to restrict visibility of and access to our resume database.

  • The Department of Career Services may, in its sole discretion, advise students to approach with caution third-party recruiters who charge a fee payable by the student.
    • Third-party recruiters will disclose information as follows:
      • Third-party recruiters will disclose to students the name(s) of the client, or clients, that the third-party recruiter is representing and to whom the students' credentials will be disclosed.
      • When deemed necessary, third-party recruiters will disclose information upon request to the Department of Career Services that would enable it to verify that the third-party recruiter is recruiting for a bona fide job opportunity. Information should include contact information for the organization for which the third-party recruiter is providing recruiting services. The Department of Career Services will respect the confidentiality of this information and will not publish it in any manner except as required by applicable law.
      • Third-party recruiters will not disclose to any employer, including the client-employer, any student information without obtaining prior written consent from the subject student. Under no circumstances will student information be disclosed for other than the original recruiting purposes nor will it be sold or provided to other entities. Online job posting and resume referral services must prominently display their privacy policies on their web sites, specifying who will have access to student information.
    • Third-party recruiters attending career fairs will represent employers who have authorized them and will disclose to the Department of Career Services the names of the represented employers
