American Public University System Recognized as Top-Five Value Choice in 2016 Washington Monthly College Rankings

Charles Town, WV, August 30, 2016 —American Public University System (APUS) today announced that it has been recognized as a “Best Bang for the Buck” for 2016 by Washington Monthly Magazine in its annual college rankings. APUS ranked fourth overall out of 100 southeastern public, private and for-profit schools evaluated on a broad spectrum of student completion, debt and affordability metrics, and was the highest-rated school in its sector.

“The survey’s stated purpose is to highlight schools which charge a reasonable price for quality education that will advance students in their careers,” said APUS President Dr. Karan Powell. “We’re honored to add this coveted value distinction to our existing industry accolades for academic quality and innovation in online education. While some of the College Scorecard criteria used do not effectively represent the unique attendance and persistence traits of adult learners, such rankings benefit discerning students seeking the academic environment that is right for them.”

For nearly 25 years, APUS has offered affordable academic programs expressly designed to provide outstanding learning and career outcomes to military and civilian students in collaborative, fully- online classrooms led by faculty scholar-practitioners who are leaders in their fields. The university is a multiple recipient of Online Learning Consortium awards for excellence and effective practices in online education and of the Wagner Award for Distance Education Leadership.

APUSmobile was also recently honored as an Educational App finalist in the Reimagine Education Awards competition for its potential to benefit students. In addition, more than 30 APUS students and alumni have been finalists in the prestigious Presidential Management Fellowship program since 2012.
