Charles Town, W. Va., May 3, 2017 – Dr. Wallace E. Boston, CEO of American Public Education, Inc. (APEI), has been named president emeritus of APEI subsidiary American Public University System (APUS).
Dr. Boston, who served APUS in his prior role from 2004-16, was presented with a presidential medallion and official portrait by Board of Trustees Chair Dr. Kate Zatz and current President, Dr. Karan Powell. The portrait will be permanently displayed in the APUS Finance Center, adjacent to that of APUS Founder and inaugural Chancellor James P. Etter.
Dr. Boston joined APUS as executive vice president and CFO in 2002, and was appointed president in 2004. During his presidency, he guided APUS through its successful initial accreditation with the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association in 2006 and ten-year reaccreditation in 2011. In July 2016, he was succeeded as APUS president by former Provost Dr. Powell, while continuing his leadership role as CEO of APEI to provide strategic and leadership support to APUS, Hondros College of Nursing, and other APEI ventures.
